New jobs often come to Highrise Glass through word of mouth.
In the case of The 5 MLK project, Highrise Glass was recommended to Reflection Windows and Wall (RWW) by Hoffman Construction Company who witnessed our installation work firsthand on five large projects done earlier in Portland, Oregon.
5 MLK in Portland Oregon is our 9th large glazing project in Portland.
Our previous Portland projects include:
5 MLK is a large, beautiful and complex tower. The modern and elegant window wall system used at 5 MLK was RWW’s, built sturdy and heavy to resemble a curtain wall design. We hadn’t worked with this system before but our experienced installers quickly learned the ins and outs and moved skillfully, on track with the fast paced schedule of the tower.
The frames and supporting materials were ordered ahead of schedule and stored in a rented warehouse, giving us more control over when windows arrive and ensuring smooth progress throughout the job. This flexibility combined with the flexibility of our crews helped relieve the busy hoist and tower crane schedule, with most deliveries happening past regular hours and on quiet Saturdays.
Everyone likes seeing windows finally stand up on a floor but a lot of attention is always given to the preparation that doesn’t get as much fanfare. Items like shooting elevation, header receptor install, sill receptor install, waterproofing, and a uniquely designed glass slab cover were given extra care and attention due to the intricacy of this system.
Once the ground work was in place, visible progress would happen quickly and suddenly another floor of this beautiful tower would manifest.
